Where does the time go?

Running a successful fitness business means understanding and managing your time…

successful fitness studios manage time

If you’re running your own fitness Studio and trying to build your fitness business, you’re probably more than familiar with juggling your time. Managing a successful business takes a lot of time and dedication… managing your bookings, checking your accounts, keeping on top of you clients, and, well the list goes on!

Successful business owners know the importance of time management and squeezing the most out of every minute. But this doesn’t always come naturally as procrastination is your worst enemy. You know what I mean, you need to make that phone call but instead of just picking up the phone, you decide that you’ll quickly do something else instead.

To understand how successful fitness Studios thrive, we need to understand where our time goes, and we need to make every minute count.

Only 24 hours in a day!

There’s no getting away from it, there are only 24 hours in a day, and 60-minutes in an hour.  That means you only have 1,440 minutes a day to make it happen… to build your fitness business, to spend time with your family, and to live a little!

On average you’ll probably sleep for around 420 minutes, spend approx 60 minutes eating and drinking, 20 minutes going to the toilet, and 15 minutes washing, leaving only 925 minutes to do everything else!

To grow your fitness business you need to be mindful of your valuable 925 minutes, and how you use them will depend on your successful your fitness Studio is.

To understand how you use your 925 minutes, let’s take a look at an average day. Let’s say that your Fitness Studio runs a combination of 1-2-1 appointments and group classes, and to make things easy, let’s say that today you don’t have any 1-2-1 appointments, but you are responsible for 5 classes. That means you spend 300 minutes motivating and instructing your clients, and an additional 10 minutes per class checking clients in and collecting payments. This now leaves you with 575 minutes to yourself.

Now let’s take into account that you currently manage your bookings and enquiries through text and email. This can easily eat into 30 minutes of your day, and if you need to go to the bank to deposit your hard earned cash, there’s another 60 minutes gone! This isn’t too bad, it still leaves you with 485 minutes.

But what happens if you have to cancel a class? You just know you’re going to spend the next 15 minutes trying to contact everybody, and then then next 5 minutes making a note on who’s now owned a free class. There goes another 20 minutes!

Now, don’t forget, we’re trying to grow our fitness business, so it’s fair to say that you’re going to need to spend a little time promoting your fitness Studio. Let’s say you use Facebook to advertise, you create your advert and spend the next 10 minutes trying to get your perfect audience, you know what I mean, keeping that little indicator in the green.

Promoting your fitness Studio is one thing, but you know that if you want a successful fitness Studio you’re going to have to keep on top of your accounts. So, let’s dedicate at least 15 minutes to updating your spreadsheets and making notes on those that forgot to bring their money this week. We’re now down to 440 minutes to squeeze your commuting time, family time, and downtime into your day.

So, how can you reclaim those valuable lost minutes?

Automation is the key here, if you can automate your daily tasks you can use that saved time to grow your business and spend more time with your family.
